Tampere

Welcome to Tampere! Hands down, it’s great. So great.

Tampere is a beautiful, historical city in the inland of Finland. The city was established at 1779 by Kustaa III, a young monarch from Sweden. By population it is the third biggest city in our country. It locates in between of two magnificent lakes, Näsijärvi and Pyhäjärvi, in a lovely ridge scenery. Tampere has a great history as an industrial city. It has sometimes even been called the “Manchester of Finland”. The Finlayson cotton factory was the first grand industrial company of Finland and inside it’s industry hall the first electrical light of the Nordic countries was lighted. Today Tampere can be defined as the center of ultimate technology, research, education, culture and entrepreneurship.

Tampere is a combination of the beautiful Finnish nature and architectural impressiveness. The city has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere which warmly welcomes even the most grumpy visitor. At Tampere you get to experience the lust of a big city, but at the same time the beauty of our lakes and the nature around them. This city is also full of action. You can experience some culture by seeing a theater play or listening to concerts from heavy rock to classical church music. You can feel the old and the new around you all at once and spend time relaxing and watching people walk by through the windows of cozy coffee shops. The best part of the city is that it has everything; the peace of the nature, sophisticated culture, dark pubs and flashy nightclubs. There are also a lot of different sport activities if you enjoy your time in action outdoors.
